The German Shepherd is undoubtedly one of the most sought after dogs in the world, they are currently high on the list of the 10 most popular dogs in the US.
They were made hugely popular in the States mainly because of the most famous of them all – Rin Tin Tin. At one point, at the height of his fame, he was receiving 10,000 fan letters every week.
But it’s not just the fact he was a world famous movie star that make GSDs so popular. They are used by humans for so many crucial jobs. Leading the blind, police dogs, military dogs, visiting sick people and of course what they were originally bred for, herding stock.
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, German Shepherds were used for search and rescue crawling through the tangled wreckage searching for survivors and helping rescue workers.
